I have €10,000 plus a 2000 Ford Focus 1.8. I'm looking for an economical automobile to do 100km a day, every day. What kind of automobile should I be looking at? Was thinking of a 1.8 TDCi Focus. Is diesel a good choice?

How much would it cost to change a timing belt in my 2000 Hyundai Coupe?
Also, there is a smell of exhaust fumes while driving the same automobile. The smell is always there while driving, but only can smell with the windows open and is strongest on the driver's side.
Any ideas or help would be great.
Not much money to go to mechanic!
