Bangernomics update: NCTs and the winter months

changagoidem Features | Bangernomics update: NCTs and the winter months

I have to report that my little blue Fiat Cinquecento is running faultlessly so far. Indeed, so is the Renault Clio. Both these automobiles have a less than favourable reputation for longevity and reliability yet buy wisely, look after them and all being well you will avoid sudden problems like failing gearboxes.

I have checked the oil levels and tyre pressures of both the Clio and the Cinquecento and all is well. I keep an eye on the oil and water levels of both these automobiles for different reasons. The Cinquecento has a reputation for blowing head gaskets and…

Bangernomics update: Craig eyes up a 'new' Discovery

changagoidem Features | Bangernomics update: Craig eyes up a 'new' Discovery

Winter is upon us and the time has come where it is a pointless task cleaning the automobile. Road grime instantly reattaches itself. While we are on the subject of road grime, the flat blade wipers I have fitted to the Fiat have not performed so well. I have tried several times to get a clear and even sweep of the blades but failed. I tried bending the arms as well as the blades but all to no avail. They are not totally useless, but the best I can get with them is a slight skipping of the blade on…

Shoe-string motoring: Craig fondly remembers his Lexus

changagoidem Features | Shoe-string motoring: Craig fondly remembers his Lexus

The Lexus has gone. So how well did it perform as a good value banger? Those of you who have been following my weekly ramblings will already be thinking "Very good".

Every time I close the fridge door, or boil my kettle, I never thing of its workings or how well it silently performs its duties without trouble. These appliances are always there doing what we purchased them for. The only time we have reason to think specifically about them is when they fail.

The Lexus is like my fridge in that respect. It never ever let me…

changagoidem Features | 2012 LA Design Challenge entries revealed

The entries for the 2012 LA Auto Show Design Challenge have been revealed and we have to note the similarities between the visions of law enforcement vehicles from the year 2025 from BMW, General Motors, Honda and Subaru; the entry from Mercedes-Benz stands removed from the pack as it is suspected to preview a future G-Wagen.

BMW's E-Patrol (Human-Drone Pursuit Vehicle) is a bulletproof, thermally powered pursuit vehicle that can deploy three drones should the main vehicle not be able to keep up with a suspect vehicle through the congested streets of Los Angeles in 2025. Once deployed the…

Shoe-string motoring: good-bye Lexus, hello...

changagoidem Features | Shoe-string motoring: good-bye Lexus, hello...

What a week it has been. No sooner had I offloaded one slightly broken silver Fiat Seicento and someone else who happened to be in the market for a reliable cheap set of wheels and it just so happens they quite fancied a Lexus IS 200 SE.  While I wasn't intentionally going to get rid of the Lexus, well at least not yet, the deal on offer was a good one and I was thinking of what could replace it before I had even handed over the keys. The deal was done at €900 - exactly what I paid for…

Found in the classifieds - Bond automobiles you can actually buy

changagoidem Features | Found in the classifieds - Bond automobiles you can actually buy

In case you haven't heard, the new James Bond adventure, Skyfall, is out and is said to be a return to form for the fifty-year-old franchise after the disappointment that was Quantum of Solace.  Over his fifty year automobileeer the evergreen Bond has driven iconic automobiles such as the Lotus Esprit 'submarine', a convertible Toyota 2000GT (only because Sean Connery was too tall to fit into the coupé) and of course the iconic Aston Martin DB5 that will always be associated with Ian Fleming's most famous creation.

But what about us mere mortals who want a touch of Bond (ooer…
